Education/History
jennifer bauerle, Ph.D. received her doctorate degree from the University of Virginia in Program Evaluation and her dissertation is entitled " Changing perceptions of drinking among university undergraduates using social norms marketing." Dr. bauerle became the Social Norms Marketing Coordinator at the University of Virginia's Department of Student Health in the Office of Health Promotion in 2001 where she expanded the first year program to reach a campus wide population.
In 2006, Dr. bauerle became the Director of the newly formed National Social Norms Institute and is leading the Institute to become the premiere resource for practioners and researchers in the field of social norms. She currently sits on the Alcohol Advisory Board at the University of Virginia as well as the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition for the surrounding community.
Publications and Accomplishments
Numerous presentations at national and regional meetings on the social norms approach as well as interviews for television and newspaper on alcohol issues of college students.
Publications include manuscripts in the peer-reviewed Journal of Studies on Alcohol, Journal of the American College Health and the Report on Social Norms. Dr. bauerle also authored The Health Promotion Survey Annual Report from 2002 through 2006.
Lead on a research grant-funded web site, that won the Bronze Medal for the World Wide Web Health Awards in Spring, 2002 for www.iqhealthvirginia.com
Research interests include social norms marketing, substance abuse among college students and the impact of exposure to normative alcohol education on drinking levels and negative outcomes of the intended population.
